Job Description

The mission of F3ST is to connect mountain communities in western North Carolina through the Fonta Flora

State Trail to promote physical health, mental wellness, economic development, and outdoor recreation with trail partners for the enjoyment and education of all people.

General Job Description: The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership, strategy, and general operations for the organization. They will oversee all affairs related to the organization’s administration, strategic plan, marketing, fundraising, fiscal management, program management, government relations, and community outreach.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and enables the Board to meet its governance, financial, and legal responsibilities. They will implement the Boards’ directives. The Executive Director must be deeply committed to the goals of the organization and the execution of its mission. The Executive Director will ensure ongoing programmatic excellence through a continuous evaluation and refinement of goals while recommending timelines and resources needed.

This is a full-time position working remotely with the potential to have office space as the organization grows.

Mileage re-imbursement and materials budget available which includes software, phone, office materials.

Responsibilities include the following:

Communicate –

• Serve as an articulate, enthusiastic, and visible spokesperson and as a prominent leader

• Share information regarding the organization and the Fonta Flora State Trail (benefits, progress, etc.) to the media, public, stakeholders, landowners, government entities, businesses, trail users, board and members

• Use a variety of communication methods based on the situation – in person and online meetings, phone, email, newsletters, surveys, brochures, social media, web

Coordinate –

• Board management and development (includes coordination of meetings, recruitment, education and training for board members)

• Facilitate communication as well as maintain and sustain trusting relationships with partners, alliances, trail organizations, stakeholders, tourism agencies, government entities and the like

• Compile and update reports to the board regarding partnerships, trail projects, strategic plan goals, and financial reports

• Work with other non-profits to advance the cause – health and fitness, land trusts, community outreach

• Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities through grants, membership, campaigns,

donations, corporate support, and events

• Research, write and manage grants

• Staying informed and knowledgeable of current trail development in entire region

• Develop and monitor an annual budget

• Unify trail development efforts across multiple counties through collaboration of program goals

Activate –

• Develop and implement a strategic plan, re-evaluate annually, and develop annual implementation plans

• Develop an annual work plan, based on Strategic Plan, and communicate status quarterly at board meetings

• Build excitement and supporters by making it easy to be a part of the trail and by planning

outreach events, conferences, public input sessions, trail days

• Provide technical assistance on land and easement acquisition and find solutions to trail system-wide challenges

• Energize and engage volunteers, board members, committees, and funders

• Enhance the organization’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.

• Incorporate principles of equitable and inclusionary planning for public spaces through meaningful participation from the community

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• 5 years’ experience in non-profit sector, experience in outdoor recreation sector is a plus

• Proven experience in writing and obtaining grants

• Proven track record in financial management

• Knowledgeable in using Customer relationship management (CRM) software, Donor Perfect,

Accounting software and generating financial reports, Word Press for web site updates, Mail Chimp for monthly newsletters, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, Mapping software and graphic design, Effective systems in tracking projects

• Excellence in organizational management and leadership

• Enthusiastic for the organization’s mission and the development of outdoor recreation

• Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and diverse groups of people

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and enthusiastic communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

• Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning

• High level analytic strategic thinking and planning

• Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy - action-oriented, entrepreneurial, self-directed, adaptable

Compensation:

The salary for this full-time position is $60,000 which includes PTO and holiday pay. Currently, insurance benefits are not available.
