Getting to USFS Trails

David Billstrom with Kitsbow Cycling Apparel contacted F3ST about a safer route for bicyclists leaving the Old Fort Ride House and travelling to the USFS Trails on Curtis Creek. With Highway 70 being both busy and narrow, Billstrom thought a better route from the future Fonta Flora State Trail Trailhead and Park (off Lackeytown Rd) should be explored.

While F3ST Executive Committee members were on-site discussing the path around Davidson’s Fort, they traced a possible route that would take the railroad crossing near Redtown Rd, cross Hwy 70 west of Curtis Creek Bridge (exploring over or under), follow Curtis Creek until Jarrett Creek Parking. The next step is getting some surveys and talking with the landowners. Hopefully, this section will be completed by the end of the year.

From there, the question remains is this path to Hwy 70/Curtis Creek a spur trail off FFST (while FFST will stay along Greenlee Road until it meets up with the Catawba River again)? Or will this be the route of FFST as it continues east as a multiuse path down Hwy 70?
